Water is an incredibly precious resource and even though 70% of our beautiful planet is made up of the substance, there are millions of people worldwide who do not have access to a clean water source. In an age where technology can solve almost any problem, it is sobering to see 10% of the Earth’s population having to get by without clean water, especially when people in developed countries fritter away water without a second’s thought for those less fortunate.
Nature’s Water produced a rather intriguing video, which you can view below, highlighting a series of facts about how the world’s water is used and misused. That last word is especially pertinent when the wealthiest of us think of water usage as an afterthought while 200 children an hour die in impoverished countries from having no clean water to consume. Indeed, the UN is on record as predicting that by 2025, more than two out of three people worldwide will face water scarcity.
Water inequality is not a problem that will go away easily, but it can be helped if we take a few small actions to try and redress the balance, no matter how much of an uphill battle it may seem. Instead of washing dishes by hand, let an energy-efficient dishwasher do the work for you – it uses only 20% of the water that you’d need if you washed the dishes yourself.
