When I was a teenager I struggled with severe depression and anxiety – the pills prescribed to me made it worse so suicide seemed like the only option to end my misery. During this time, every single day was a battle to keep my life.
I remember walking to school one day dreading the thought of being around people. The weather was nice but I couldn’t feel it because I was so numb.
All of a sudden out of nowhere, a woman passing by locked eyes with me. She grinned the biggest, brightest smile; her eyes were glowing with happiness and I remember it seemed as if there was a white aura around her. There were no words exchanged, just a smile.
That single moment drastically changed the course of my entire day. This woman, this stranger, not only acknowledged me, she showed me kindness and happiness with a simple smile… she expected nothing in return.
Who knows. I could’ve taken my life that day if it wasn’t for her effortless expression.
I always think about that- how a simple smile could change the course of someone’s life. Not only is it possible that you can save someone’s life, but what if that person went on to save or help other people’s lives causing a domino effect…
Seems drastic I know… but it’s 100% possible.
You can change the world every day in even the smallest ways, so smile at someone today, because you just never know what the power of joy can do.
