In recent years, we have seen a lot of media activity and online narrative related to climate change and environmental issues. Greta Thunberg for example, a Swedish teenager has made a meteoric rise in terms of awareness for climate related matters. This has brought the subject to the forefront of the minds for a whole new generation and this continues to gather ground. Bea Johnson is another individual who has focused on all things environmental. Ms. Johnson is a French-born lady who has put focus on reducing her household waste to “zero”. With her family and herself based in the USA, Bea Johnson has created a career and has travelled the world explaining her zero waste movement.
She has also written blogs, spoken at events and continues to push the notion that we can all as households, aim to reduce our waste. Getting it to zero might be a scary goal but if you read into Bea Johnson’s teachings, it shows how she and her family have achieved this.
Furthermore, it is possible for us as households to slowly work towards the goal of zero waste as opposed to cutting our waste to zero immediately. If we take it in stages, it is more achievable and gives people something to work towards. Being climate aware is something we need to have on our agenda in the long term, it’s not a quick-win scenario. The world we live in needs care and we can take measures to ensure its longevity by focusing on goals like the zero waste movement and teaching our children to do the same.
