So many people just buy pet food, not really thinking about what the ingredients are. Many people just buy the cheapest stuff thinking, ah it’s just for my dog/cat. Whatever. And then you have ppl like me who actually think about the ingredients and what the magical words “animal digest” and other ugly words mean. I’m not sure I want to know, but I do.
Now, when you really think about it, a domesticated pet will generally eat the same food every day for their whole lives. I mean it seems fine, if it’s for sale why wouldn’t it be safe? Yeah except there’s a whole lot of dishonesty behind the food industry. Vets are basically “paid off” to recommend these brands to their clients. And one might think, “Why would they promote something that isn’t the best quality?” Well from research I’ve done, it’s because healthy food would put them out of business. It’s simple really. It ties into the whole conspiracy behind prescription drugs for humans that actually make us sicker. Doctors would be out of work so why would they really want us to be healthy? I see the truth behind all of this. Why else do some doctors dissaprove of herbal remedies? It’s a sick world so it makes sense. Of course this theory is just what some people have come up with, but I think it really makes a lot of sense. Not to mention money is at the root of it all.
So ok, I’m going to use human food as a comparison. We all know that hot dogs are for the most part, nasty leftover parts! Even a meat lover knows this. But of course people still eat them because they apparently taste good, and it’s easier to forget about what they made of. Hot dogs to me are one of the lowest grades of meat that humans eat (there are exceptions). Here is an explaination of ingredients from Wikipedia:
There is no fixed specification for hot dog meat, with pork and beef being the most popular. Less expensive hot dogs typically contain chicken, due to the low cost and availability of mechanically separated chicken, and some pork. Hot dogs are generally regarded as unhealthy insofar as most have high sodium, fat and nitrate content. Contents can also be questionable, with cheaper types of hot dogs having been known to contain snouts, ears, and blended organs. In recent years, due to changing dietary preferences in the U.S., manufacturers have turned to turkey, chicken, or vegetarian meat substitutes as well as lowering the salt content.
In general, if a manufacturer produces two different hot dog-type sausages, “wieners” tend to contain pork, and to be the blander of the two, while “franks” tend to be all-beef, and more strongly seasoned. This is particularly true of Oscar Mayer.
Ok so with that being said, this is actually better than what goes into most pet foods. But if you asked a meat eater what they would prefer if laid out before them, a hot dog or steak, what do you think they would prefer? We’re talking quality wise here…Who the hell wants to eat leftover parts?
Now if a human ate hot dogs everyday for their whole lives, imagaine what would happen. It’s shitty food, it’s going to be bad for you! So would you really choose such to eat such bad food, that it harmed your body? Maybe sometimes, but not constantly. So why would you do this to your pets?
Some may argue that cats and dogs in the wild eat animals etc., but these domesticated pets are not in the wild. Their genes have changed to require different foods. Now even though I don’t eat meat and I would rather not support the industry, I realize that my cats should have meat. But I would rather they had good meat, and not a bunch of by-products and fillers. That is not so natural to me…
From some things I have read, quality pet food = longer and healthier lives. This makes sense 100%. So for me to spend the extra money on quality and natural foods, actually makes sense in the long run because I’d be spending more than that in vet bills over the course of their life. Aside from that, I want my animals to be healthy and happy. I’d want it no other way.
So back to my point that this recall could be a good thing…this is because many people will now start to think about what they feed thier animals. Hopefully they will look at the ingredients and make healthier choices for their pets. This in turn, will hopefully drop sales for these crappy companies who just want to make an extra buck at the expense of our beloved pets. This will hopefully increase sales for natural pet food companies that deserve to be making the money, because they actually care about the ingredients and welfare of animals.
It’s very unfortunate that some animals had to die or get sick because of man’s stupid mistakes, but hopefully it will open peope’s eyes to what really goes into the bodies of our companion friends, and our own. Don’ think for a second that the animal food companies are on their own. All these corporations are tied to human food, and they have the same disregard for our health. Cheap ingredients mean more money in their pocket. I don’t want to be a part of that.
