Part Of the Change Your Focus, Change Your Life Series
For years, I wanted a man in my life to spontaneously bring me flowers. Whenever I made a wish list for the perfect mate, flowers was always at the top of the list.
One day, after I had learned about the Law of Attraction and how it works, I had to face an ugly truth. It happened while I was grocery shopping. I passed by a beautiful floral display and thought, Hmmm, those are pretty. I should buy some. They’d look wonderful on my table. My very next thought Oh, they’re too expensive; I’d better not.
UGH! I wanted a mate to give me flowers when I wasn’t willing to spend the money to give them to myself! Talk about self-defeating behavior!
Knowing about the Law of Attraction isn?t all fun and games, you know. Sometimes it’s painfully obvious why your life circumstances are the way they are.
So today’s challenge question is – what gifts do you give to yourself?
They can be pragmatic. For example, the first thing I do in the morning is make my bed. It feels like a gift for two reasons: (1) I’ve already accomplished at least one thing; and (2) ridiculous as it sounds, it makes me happy to see my bed all made up. It’s pretty and pleasing to my eyes. I like it.
Another gift is to sit in my favorite overstuffed chair, drink my morning tea while doing a crossword puzzle. Although I don’t indulge every day, when I do, it’s a lovely way to ease into my normally busy life.
Gifts to yourself are a way of announcing to the Universe, I believe my needs matter and I am behaving in harmony with that belief. This is critical because the Law of Attraction delivers what you consistently focus on.
I can?t tell you how many workers I talk to who are upset because their boss doesn’t give them enough praise. Yet, when I ask what they would like to be acknowledged for, they are hard-pressed to come up with specific answers. They usually say vague things like, Well, I work hard, or I don’t call in sick very often.
If you can’t give yourself some high fives, why expect your boss to? You attract what you focus on. Give yourself the gift of celebrating your accomplishments and be amazed as others notice them, too.
As I write this, we are in the midst of the busy year-end holiday season. Many of you are stressed over what gifts to buy for others. You’ve spent time worrying and researching and a good deal of money in order to successfully express your feelings through the gifts you give.
If you made a list of the gifts you give to yourself, what would it say about what you think you deserve? Some of you give yourselves the equivalent of a lump of coal in your stocking every single day!
Here are some free gifts to enjoy now:
Revel in your abilities and talents.
Bask in the warmth when you come in from cold weather.
Enjoy the feel of the body parts that take you where you want to go.
Delight in delicious smells when they waft your way.
Give silent thanks to those who decorate during holidays. If you’ve put up your own decorations, enjoy them.
Sip with pleasure hot drinks when you’re cold and cold drinks when you’re hot.
Thoroughly enjoy whatever senses you have: sight, hearing, smell, touch, or taste.
Most of all, put yourself on your own gift list and figure out what the perfect gift would be for you and then give it to yourself. If not you… who?
And yes, after years of buying flowers for myself, I now have the perfect mate.
