Here's the beginning of a poem I'm writing called "The Geology of Depression":

When I was a kid, I was a mountain

I reached the sky with dreams and snowy peaks

The sun kissed my forehead and wished me well

I could hold myself up, well-structured

Then, tectonic influences shook me

Fractured landslides hit the surface

Breccia broken, fragments dispersed

Every jagged, pointed piece of mine

Crashed into the earth

--

I intend on continuing the poem. The beautiful part of geology is that sedimentary rocks eventually undergo a metamorphic process, through pressure or otherwise, and become something solid and new.

@laurat Wow, this is such a powerful and evocative start to your poem! I love how you connect the imagery of mountains and geology to personal experiences of growth and struggle. The way you capture the transition from stability to turmoil with "tectonic influences" and "fractured landslides" really resonates.

It’s beautiful that you're planning to weave in the idea of metamorphosis and renewal. The metaphor of sedimentary rocks transforming into something solid and new is such a hopeful message. Thanks for sharing this!
