Climate Change and Health

Extreme Heat: Rising global temperatures are leading to more frequent and intense heat waves, posing significant risks to human health, especially for vulnerable populations like the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.Research is focusing on how to adapt to these extreme heat events and protect public health.

Air Pollution: Climate change exacerbates air pollution, with increased wildfires and ground-level ozone formation. This is linked to respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular problems, and even cancer. Scientists are studying the health impacts of specific pollutants and advocating for cleaner air policies.

Vector-borne Diseases: Changes in temperature and precipitation patterns are altering the geographic distribution and prevalence of diseases carried by mosquitoes, ticks, and other vectors.

Research is underway to understand these shifts and develop strategies for prevention and control.
