I just got into a quickie writing assignment that's pretty thought provoking this morning. I'm asked to do one about how men are supposed to feel comfortable about starting a conversation with a girl online.
I had to sit back and think. And, yeah! It's hard to start chatting with any stranger online no matter what the sex might be. While online, we're being judged only on our printed words... And it gets intimidating sometimes when vocabulary levels are different, or when geographic society standards are different... so on.
After some thought, I finally decided that using words that make people around you feel happy and comfortable is probably the best game-plan. I'm looking it all up now.
It's a good mind-game question. What are we drawn to in conversations online that makes us feel either comfortable or threatened.
Laughing!!! The things that I get myself into sometimes.... Ideas Folks?
Lol - well, that is one of the things I like about writing a variety of articles - we get the opportunity to learn about things that we might never have even given a second thought to.
Using words that work in person is a great idea. I think also that witty folks need to be particularly aware of what they are writing since online chatting does not lend itself well to tone and emotion. A dry sense of humor can come across wrong, etc.
Yep, got that part already - and no cap's!!! Cap's are YELLING!!!! And questions work to start conversations - or to keep them going....
Men talking to me online have to be nice or I run. I don't like the cussing kind of conversations that I see go by on other sites. Seeing who can use the "f" word the most in one paragraph has never impressed me. But, maybe that works for some females? Or, it wouldn't still be happening?
Hummm.... More thought needed.
Good point, must work for someone. I think it just makes them seem young and immature - use your words, gents.
Smiles! Work-a-holic little me just started constructing our Writers Group page. Might take a few days...
I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. There's so many writers here --- we need a group!
I better go get that article in now.
