I have received a couple of private messages asking about energy healing and I have seen it mentioned in other threads, so I thought it might be helpful to post a short description that gives at least a general idea of what Reiki/Energy Healing is and how it works.
This is taken directly from my website (www.reddoorwellness.com) but a google search will bring up lots of websites for further information.
Energy Healing or Energy Work is one the oldest forms of healing, dating back to ancient civilizations. Different forms of Energy Work have developed in many cultures throughout the ages, establishing practices and traditions that are still widely used today.
Reiki is anon-invasive form of Energy Healing that is natural and safe, and works with your body to maintain health, balance and well-being. Reiki is particularly helpful for assisting in relaxation and stress reduction; bringing mind, body and spirit into balance; managing the effects of invasive, but sometimes necessary treatments (such as chemotherapy);decreasing anxiety; facilitating better sleep; and facilitating the body’s healing process.

About Reiki
The term Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) comes from two Japanese words – Rei, meaning universal and Ki, meaning life force or energy. Together, they become Reiki, or Universal Life Force Energy. This is one way to describe the energy that permeates and connects all things – people, animals, trees, the planet and so forth.
One of the greatest benefits of Reiki is its ability to reduce stress; therefore, allowing your body to more readily access its own natural, healing process. Numerous medical studies have shown that stress inhibits the body’s natural ability to repair, regenerate and protect itself. High stress levels are an indicator for more frequent illnesses(such as colds), slower recovery from illness, injury and surgery, and increased symptoms from chronic illness or pain.
Different methods of working with this energy for healing purposes have been used for thousands of years throughout the world and are still practiced today through Reiki, yoga, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Tai Chi and other modalities. Once considered a fringe practice by some medical establishments, Reiki is now commonly taught to nurses and other healthcare professionals to assist patients through their healing process.
Reiki practitioners have been attuned by a Reiki Master to channel this healing energy to others. Through a series of lightly placed hand positions, this energy is channeled from the practitioner to the recipient, who lies fully-clothed on a mat or table, or sits in a chair.
With each hand position, some recipients feel warmth, some feel a coolness or tingly sensation, and others feel no noticeable sensation at all. Many times, the recipient reaches a state of such relaxation that they fall asleep during the session.
Reiki practitioners focus our work around the body’s energy system and the Chakras (or energy centers) that run from the base of your spine to the top of your head.
Often, practitioners will combine other holistic modalities to enhance relaxation or the healing experience. Each session may include smudging, aromatherapy, sound, meditation and breathing, healing stones, or other beneficial tools.
