During times of tyranny and oppression, there are people who dare and have the courage to be the voice of the voiceless. They are like prophets coming from the wilderness speaking the painful truths about ourselves and our society. They are the voice in the wilderness, the cry of the downtrodden, speaking in the mountaintops what used to be told in whispered voices, shouting out our innermost fears and longings, giving hope to our world. Most often these courageous voices are silenced in the end with a bullet or with death but are they really silenced? History will attest that those who were silenced by the powers that be turns out that their voices become magnified and their persons immortalized. Who could not know of Socrates condemned by the "wise" sophists as a rebel and an atheist and when he was put to trial put the whole Athens to trial? Who would ever forget Galileo when he was excommunicated by the church for saying that the world was round. Who would forget Joan of Arc even if she was burned as a wicked witch. Who would not remember Jesus Christ even when he was crucified as a thief and a rebel. Or Martin Luther King assassinated ...or John Lennon whose legacy and songs and life has become an inspiration for a better world. No the voice of the voiceless may have been killed as always but their death was a triumph of life and liberty and freedom for all humanity!:
