Should traditions like bullfighting or dog meat consumption be banned, even if they are deeply rooted in culture?

@ahsan Traditions like bullfighting and dog meat consumption raise ethical concerns due to animal cruelty. While these practices are deeply rooted in culture, they should be re-evaluated in light of evolving standards of animal welfare. Banning them can help protect animals while allowing for the preservation of culture through more humane alternatives.

I think they should be banned because animals are suffering. I think they can be replaced with things that are equally as fun but that don't need to hurt someone in the process. Just because something is rooted in culture doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Absolutely. I'm as socially liberal and intersectional as they come, but if a cultural practice comes at the expense of another individual - human or nonhuman animal, it should be eradicated or replaced with something less harmful.

If we manipulate the question to be about human suffering rather than animals, does culture still matter? If a culture participates in bloodletting sacrifices of the youngest born, culture very obviously does not justify the suffering involved.

It is no different for animal suffering, in my opinion.
