Being a rail fan with a one-track, two-rail mind, I came up with an analogy I think you'll like:
Imagine you’re on a passenger train. The train is stopped at a station. You look out the window and see a parallel train track. You look at the parallel track, viewing the two rails, the ties, and the ballast (the small rocks used for drainage and track stability).
The train starts moving very slowly. Looking at the parallel track, you see the ties and ballast moving the opposite direction. As the train picks up speed, all you see are the two rails. The ties and ballast are moving so fast they become blurred.
The fast-moving ties and ballast symbolize the fleetingness of everything in this life: here today, gone today. The two rails symbolize God and you.
This analogy is very profound because it shows that no matter what happens in our lives, God is a Constant: He is always with us. And it shows that we are a constant: our souls live for eternity. This analogy puts our lives into better perspective. It helps us see that all we have that really matters is our relationship with God — the only other Constant in life. And it helps us distinguish between the important and the most important.
On the lighter side, here's a funny Baha'i joke. This is based on the fact that Baha'is love potluck dinners.
A first grade teacher decided to have her class do a show and tell about religion. A little boy got up and said, "I'm a Christian. This is my beautiful cross." A little girl got up and said, "I'm a Jew. This is my lovely Star of David." A little boy got up and said, "I'm a Baha'i. This is my casserole dish."
