We are now living at the dawn of the Information Society. The industrial society has already peaked and at its ebb follows a new world. What are the gifts that the Information society bear? Information is by nature socially owned. This is why it is so hard to put patents and intellectual property rights on it. It is in the air so to speak. Information society is still very young but once Information Society goes on full swing it will begin to question many things we take for granted as true during industrial society such as absolute private property which permits any individual to amass riches at the expense of the poor majority. Since Information which will be the backbone of the economy is by nature social, ownership of information which guides the world’s resources is compelled to be social also. Thus Information society promises to resolve massive social inequality that plagues the world today. Information is created by people and shared by people. If good people in the world fill cyberspace with good ideas, good values, good visions, good things, then the whole world will be transformed into goodness. The centrality of ownership and authority and power and money that marked the industrial society would be replaced by individual goodness and accountability, social responsibility, post conventional morality. Corporate mentality will be replaced by a new morality that wishes all the people’s of the world share goodness and resources. A new world is dawning…let’s welcome it.
