Philselfology of Astronomy, Space Technology and Life in the Universe: Be Happy Philselfologically – 32
Well saying the same that asks How and Why I Write about World Peace and Global Issues: Role of Comparative Research Studies: How to Defend Peace and Resolve Conflicts among Ancient, Modern and the Contemporary Civilizations has all of the posts and the articles are based on my discussions with the Head, Department of Philosophy at the University of Adelaide, South Australia, Prof. Gill who replaced Prof. John as the Head in 1990. It also includes the discussions with other professors of Philosophy and Logic.
Well, as a student of Physics, Human and Society-I, at the University of Adelaide, South Australia, I received the Distinction in my following thesis work in 1990. The Paul Davis, the great writer in the Science, particularly, the Big Bang Theory was the head of the department of the Mathematical Sciences, and I was the student of first year of graduation in Mathematical Sciences. From my Professor, I received the remarks that I should continue writing about the global issues as this one as the generalization of the development of the human intellect globally, and here it is for you as sharing and remembering my days at the university. There is Possibility of Life in the Universe-The Scientific Quest
Now, It is a great work to select the topic for the thesis and write about it. I wrote the thesis about the possibility of life in the universe. It was the topic in the Physics, Human and Society for the first year of the Mathematical Sciences at the University of Adelaide in 1990. I received the ‘Credit’ for it, not the ‘Distinction’ because I added some references from the Indian Religions and Mythology and the world books of Prophecies. However, my professor was not happy at the conscience level while giving this award, as he could have given the ‘Distinction’, as I felt when I met him. He again asked me to continue writing about such topics, as he liked these works as one on the Law of Gravitation. Well, it was a great joy with the Paul Davis as the Head of the Department. Let us share the work.
The art of appreciation, imagination and vision takes us to the endless boundaries of the universe. Let us give our imagination to move around the corners of our universe where we possess one of the rarest gifts that is called dynamic continuity of intelligent life on the planet. The educational traveling beautifies this intelligent life in the universe as further paragraphs speak in exploring language.
If man represents the final expression of a recurrent process, then other communication beings probably exist in the universe. When we humans take our appearance and development on earth we start thinking about the possibility of intelligent life in the universe. Even though the universe is very big, the development, which the human mind can achieve, has no limits.
We are expanding the dimensions of our knowledge to the edges of the universe. In the past, there have been stories of humans on the moon. However, the came out to be false, which led us to find the existence of life on other planets (or stars). In his work, Aristotle says that one can only understand the essence of things when one knows their origin and development.
Moreover, in this respect, we are now able to know and analyze the origin of our life on earth, and chemical and biological processes and conditions required to produce life. Moreover, this leads us to search the intelligent life in the universe. There is not possible direct evidence at present, even though there has been strong ” belief” in flying saucers as direct evidence, it is still unseen to most of the people and scientific authorities have not seen them, so these lack their significance, thus we can not consider it rationally.
Moreover, without indirect evidence, we have to go through some sort of hurdles, the question of life in the universe could be asked after a number of hurdles of psychological, religious and ultimately, scientific nature has been taken. It seems reasonable to discuss the origin of life on earth first and then taking it to provide the basis for life in the universe. However, we have to consider solar system before universe.
When earth was formed, the temperature was too high. Therefore, we know and can expect life did appear when earth cooled down to the conditions of heat needed for the existence of life on the earth’s surface. Moreover, this was expected. Life originated because of a very improbable event, which however was almost certain to happen given sufficient time and in suitable state. The other thing, which we need to consider, is that life has no origin. Matter and life have always existed, the sort of life we have on earth with heat from the Sum and gravity of earth, planets around the Sun, there is either higher or lower temperatures which are unable to support the sort of life we have However, there is possibility that on Mars and Venus lower life may exist.
We do not have enough information about Venus. However, it seems that there is possibility of life because there is good deal of Oxygen at the surface may support many celled organisms, and even animal life of some sort may exist. The life on the Mars has not been yet found and expectations are not very high but it has been expected with probability that some sort of life is possible there. Anyhow, one of the Mars’ moons ‘Phobos’ has given rise to a tantalizing hypothesis, which postulates not only highly evolved Martian life but also superior intelligence.
Apart from the planets, around the Sun we are able to consider the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. Our solar system may lack the intelligent life on the planets around the Sun except the earth, in big universe with other solar systems it appears that while heat and energy provided Sun like stars with other planets revolving around, would provide potential for life. In other words, the Sun is a normal star and other stars may have planetary systems of their own.
It is not a necessary condition, that in any other solar system, the earth-like planet should have exactly the same distance from Sun like star. For example, if the star is too hot then the life-supporting planet may be far away from it. Then gravity and atmosphere may change largely. However, this will give rise to some strange kind of appearances to the living beings on the planet (And this does not seem absurd because in the satellite a human can be alive without gravity). From such conditions, we may find something unusual. In the universe there may be a race of intelligent beings with three heads and a dozen legs is not necessarily absurd.
There are few things which we do not believe because we think that such things cannot exist but basically whatever has potential to exist does exist whether we believe or not. A child with two heads or one eye may be disabled or handicapped in our understanding but somewhere in the universe, this may not be the case because the chemical requirements of life are easily satisfied. You see in as much as it makes use of substances that are among the most abundant in the universe and with different conditions of life, supporting planet will support such children to grow “natural” as we call a child with one head and two eyes a “natural” or a “normal” child. The chemical requirements may change not only appearance but also biological system.
We often come across meteorites and try to understand them. It has been generally accepted that these meteorites are from shattered planets millions or billions years ago. Many tests have been performed to identity any sort of information about life from them. We tend to think that origin of meteorites-this fact alone points to the ubiquity of life.
However, it is suspected that they may be from our own solar system. The information, which was collected from these meteorites, claims that it was warranted that there is extra universe; the meteorites have been taken to be one positive step. They may provide the first positive evidence for the existence of living things on a planet other than earth. Besides meteorites, there have been many efforts to find the different biological systems to ours. Our life is dependent on carbon. This makes our life called as carbohydrate biology. However, we cannot reject the idea that there can be different chemical order even though it may be unfit for our biological system. It is because life will arise naturally from the inorganic substances whenever and wherever conditions become suitable for it and these conditions may be suitable for a different chemical order from ours.
In other words, the production of living from non-living matter may be expected to undergo various determined reaction sequences, although the set of sequences appropriate to one planetary environment might differ in detail from that which would occur under slightly different conditions. Moreover, this is what may give rise to different kind of life system as we expect on earth or as we know it in our scientific knowledge. Because these pearls of human understanding and intelligence are valuable so we have to develop, more to understand it better and find suitable evidence to put this development on a proper path.
It may seem wise to take, that most the humans on this planet are interested to find out whether there are other earths like planets in the universe. A non-scientist may have limited knowledge about it, but the interest to know will be different in some sense or other. Science has its own realm of intelligence but society as a whole does not have that high realm of intelligence. Therefore, there is a gap and it cannot be filled unless both scientists and society come closer to each other. When science (claims and) does have higher realm of intelligence it becomes the responsibility of scientists to fill this gap.
It seems from our understanding of universe that we may some day face visitors from other planet and that event will increase or decrease this mentioned “gap”. The society would take religious, traditional and mythological, basis to bring forth the possibility of life in the universe. It seems that science has not yet established itself as social “identity” as compared to religion, tradition, mythology and even Philosophy, even though, it seems that all these “identities” have (inter-relation) relation with each other in some way or the other we may find many things common in science and religion.
The Sikhism as well as Hinduism and some other religions do believe in earth like planets in the universe and that some of them are either highly civilized or still developing. The founder of Sikhism said in the 15th century that universe has many times contracted and expanded and life came into existence many times in it. This is what we call “Big Bang”. However, this is not preaching but an attempt to consider that both religion and science can find a united base of the progress of this planet.
Even in the myths, there may be people with the one leg or many hands, which now does not seem absurd but some possibility. It is also to be appreciated that one of the most ancient books of prophecy (Prophecy of Pyramids) prophesied that it does seem possible in 21st century. Moreover, scientists are expecting some way to communicate somewhere in the universe in the near future.
If we humans are historical consequence of non-symmetric sequence of specific events then the probability of other communicating beings depends directly on likelihood of similar historical sequences. On the planet, the conditions of atmosphere do not remain same forever and because they do change, it may bring forth the possibility of life even on those planets, which we now consider very hot or cold for existence of life. For example, Venus, if not always too hot, would be planet where life might have developed and may be possible that Mars is still biologically at early stage. We take things to happen because our solar system is only a very small part of the universe.
It is suggested sometimes, that it may be improbable that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe but the common reply would be that intelligent life, as we know it. So far our knowledge claims that many scientific laws (especially physical e.g. gravitational) are universal and it leads that planetary systems and inhibited worlds in them are likely to be common giving rise to biogenesis with the suggestion that emergence of life on them may be a necessary feature of matter. However, this argument has potential for falsification as Simpson says.
He argues that it would be quite unreasonable to expect anywhere else even an approximation of events, which led to the development of humankind on earth. Even though the potential for falsification has been taken as basis of development of science in philosophical areas, to Simpson’s argument it seems that after big bang, if we take it as origin of the universe, all material spread in the universe and events which took place on earth can take place anywhere in the universe.
We may consider moon and earth mutually responsible for life, we can also consider moon (Phobos, well the spelling may differ) which would have formed in the similar event (as for moon and earth). Therefore, it seems that similar events may happen or occur in the solar system or universe.
We can conclude that there is intelligent life in the universe and our existence on this planet provides the de-facto basis for the conclusion that evolution of intelligent life is possible. Moreover, there is large statistical probability that at present cannot be formed but planets exist throughout the universe, capable of sustaining life. Moreover, there is enough probability as it seems, warrant some speculation on the existence of extra-terrestrial life. Moreover, Chapley estimates that at least 10, earth like planets in the universe, capable of supporting some kind of life exist.
He believes, with supporting estimate by Mamikunion that there is one star in a million to satisfy required condition for life, that within explore-able drive of evolution it would stand to reason that there should even be numerous instance of intelligent life in the universe. The aim of this legitimate scholarly argument was to fill the gap between our civilization and some other civilization in the universe and human to human which education salutes as peace and harmony of mind. Let us take a pause to take the intelligent life as a dynamic poem of continuity by Nature or God (Generator, operator and destroyer-Nature).
Let us ask ourselves
* Do we enjoy our existence in the universe?
* Do we enjoy earth and nature as a whole or get thrilled with the thoughts of nationalism imposed on humanity and the similar?
* Do we measure or feel humanity, universal melodies, and Mother Nature (the Shakti)’s love for Her creation (Nature)?
