The ancient Greeks have a holistic and comprehensive training method for body, mind, heart and spirit. They sure that one is not only physically fit but also emotionally stable…that one is not only emotionally stable but mentally equipped and alert…that one is not only mentally intelligent but spiritually empowered. Thus they develop the person all-sidedly and not mutate only one aspect as our culture does. For the body we need strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, agility, and dexterity while preventing physical sickness, disease, and uncontrolled physical desires such as lust and gluttony and sloth. For the heart we need temperance, patience, self control, sobriety, bravery while managing or removing anger, pride, jealousy, greed, hatred, impetuosity. For the mind we need to develop intelligence, wisdom, reasoning, critical thinking while foregoing with fraud, malice, scheming, being judgmental, negative thinking, worry, stress, obsession and compulsiveness. For the spirit we need to enhance a strong will, integrity, justness, fairness, goodness, and love while doing away with materialism, possessiveness, selfishness, self importance, depression, and anxiety. By being health physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, we contribute to the health of the planet and will really make the world a better place!
