Water Desalination

water desalination

Water Desalination is a process that removes salt and other mineral compounds to make water safe for human consumption. This article will refer to ocean water being transformed into water that we can utilize for drinking, bathing, and irrigation. There are primarily two ways to achieve this by thermal energy (heating up the water to separate the constituents) or mechanical such as reverse osmosis (a water purification process that filters water through a membrane separating minerals from water). These methods are costly because of the high energy utilized through these processes, however, we must look into ways to make it more efficient as other water resources are dwindling.

Solar Water is an innovative company in association with Cranfield University that hopes to make this process much more affordable and with less impact on the environment.

Here is a post sharing an inspirational project called NEOM that Solar Water is involved with

Water For The Desert

Everything we think about regarding sustainability – from energy to agriculture to manufacturing to population – has a water footprint. Almost all of the water on Earth is salt water, and the remaining freshwater supplies are split between agricultural use and human use – as well as maintaining the existing natural environment.

The future of Water Desalination looks promising as we have an abundance of salt water and water technology is rapidly advancing.

“Do you know a cure for me?” Why yes,” he said, “I know a cure for everything. Salt water.” Salt water?” I asked him. Yes,” he said, “in one way or the other. Sweat, or tears, or the salt sea”.
