It has never made much sense to me why the Federal Gov. people are so far against marijuana. You'd think that they'd be happy to process the plants and tax them like cigarettes, booze, or gasoline.

I suppose that it probably has something to do with the FDA [food drug administration] and the legal drug manufacturers had a chance to make more money if people are not growing their own pain relievers in a flower pot.

Although... Think about it? Even with the legal drug manufacturers wanting to keep a monopoly on the pain drug industry, wouldn't you think that one of them would smell the money to be made and have grabbed marijuana as a marketable item by now?

Yes Catherine i agree. If it was made legal and they manufactured it. I don't think the people would put as much effort into growing it when its convenient to buy it. We are all about convivence in this country so i think they are passing up a great opportunity to market it.

Ladies-Your both right....

The fact that you can grow it yourself for free is what irks the drug companies is my guess.....

Laughing!!! Not exactly free h2o

I've seen those television news thingies where the hydroponics (sp?) growers are being busted by their high electricity bills for their growing systems and grow lights.

But, you're right. For the most part, what I remember seeing in Southern California during the 1970's was a lot of people who just kept a few flowerpots tucked in with the tomato plants in their gardens.

In theory, if everybody was growing it, nobody would be out there buying it on the streets and that could reduce drug related gang activity a little bit - you'd think?

Or, like Kellie says, everybody would just buy it from a government source - like booze, and they would make all of the money.

During prohibition, folks took corn and fermented it with sugar and yeast to turn into moonshine; a very simple thing to make. When the government stepped back in and allowed taxable booze again, most people gave up the simple process of making their own in favor of buying the already made variety. I don't see why pot wouldn't act in the same manner.

Money. It's all about the drug companies making the money. But not necessarily the government? That hits me as weird.
