Allergic rhinitis is an inherited illness. If both parents suffer from a respiratory illness then their children have a 50% chance of also having a respiratory disease. The state of the mothers immune system during pregnancy can also influence the likelihood of passing on allergic rhinitis. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis can change as we age. Young children with allergic rhinitis are very sensitive to seasonal allergens such as spring pollens. Warmer climates usually encourage the release of more pollens than cold environments do. Windy environments distribute a range of pollens quickly and increase the affects on a person with allergic rhinitis. However, the most damaging allergens to sufferers of allergic rhinitis are dust mites. When dust mite concentration reaches 2/g in air symptoms of allergic rhinitis are most likely to appear. Air pollution can also exacerbate allergic rhinitis. Vitamin A and essential fatty acids can strengthen the immune system and assist the body to recover from chronic allergic rhinitis. However, it is important to limit exposure to allergens as much as possible.
