alcohol and health
Detailed Information

Do you drink alcohol regularly?

Alcohol is a neurotoxin. James A. Ferrel MD, CNC suggests abstinence from all alcohol. If you feel you must consume alcohol we recommend you limit your alcohol intake to under 4 oz of wine, 12 oz of beer, 1.5 ounces 80 proof or 1 ounce of 100 proof hard alcohol a day. If you are having problems with your alcohol intake because of anxiety, depression, or other issues seek the care of a qualified innovative physician. Meditation, adequate sleep, regular exercise, and nervine herbs and nutrients can be helpful. The herb Angelica Archangelica has historically decreased alcohol cravings when taken regularly in adequate amounts. This is something that a Naturopathic Physician or Integrated/Complementary Health Physician can prescribe. There is a LONG list of health problems linked to alcohol that outweighs any health benefits. Polyphenols found in red wine may benefit certain forms of cardiovascular disease, but these same beneficial substances are also found in many other non-alcoholic sources such as grape juices. Choose organic grape juice or juices made with grapes grown in the United States. Those grown in other countries often have much higher levels of pesticides. We also recommend that you limit fruit juices to fewer than 4 oz at a time of any fruit juice to limit blood sugar challenges. You may wish to mix 4 oz of fruit juice with water to obtain a full glass.
